The Casio BP-120 is a highly collectible, second-generation vintage digital wristwatch released in April 1993 that famously pioneered cuffless wearable health monitoring.
Operating on Casio’s internal Module 1101, this watch succeeded the BP-100 and introduced improved data processing logic to estimate a user's blood pressure and heart rate directly from the wrist long before modern smartwatches existed.
Key Features and Functionality
- Dual-Sensor Technology: It utilizes electro-potential contacts on the metal case back (resting against the left wrist) combined with a front-facing optical photosensor where the user places their right index finger.
- Health Tracking: By measuring the Pulse Wave Transit Time, the watch estimates systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, and heart rate.
- Data Memory: Features an internal log that automatically saves up to 30 measurement records with date and time stamps to track cardiovascular trends.
- Manual Calibration: To provide estimates, it requires the user to input baseline "Basic Data" taken from a standard medical arm-cuff monitor during rest and after exercise.
- Visual Interface: Features a distinct 1990s segmented LCD screen equipped with a heartbeat animation block and specific system status text readouts like "RETRY", "ERROR", or "BATT!".
- Standard Watch Modes: Includes daily alarms, data memory recall, and basic 24-hour timekeeping.
