The Casio TC-500 is a legendary vintage digital wristwatch released by Casio in 1983. It is widely celebrated by collectors as one of the world's very first touchscreen watches, representing a massive leap in wearable technology during the 1980s.
By eliminating the physical keypad of previous calculator watches, Casio created a sleek, futuristic gadget that remains a highly sought-after piece of tech history.
Key Specifications & Technical Design
  • The Touchscreen (Module 119): Instead of mechanical keys, the watch utilizes the Casio Crystal Touch Detection System (CTDS). The glass top surface features etched transparent electrodes. When you switch the watch into calculator mode, the sub-segments of the LCD display a grid of numbers and math symbols directly on the screen for touch input.
  • Dimensions: A remarkably slim profile for its era, measuring approximately 34 mm to 35 mm in width, 38 mm in height, and just 9 mm thick.
  • Materials: It features a chrome-plated polymer case, a stainless steel case back, a plastic bezel accent, and a stainless steel bracelet with an adjustable clip clasp.
  • Backlight: It relies on a vintage "grain of wheat" incandescent bulb rather than modern LED or Electro-luminescent (EL) backlighting.
Core Features & Modes
  • Calculator: A standard four-function calculator (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) mapped entirely across the invisible capacitive glass sensor.
  • Timekeeping: Full digital display including day, month, date, and current time in 12 or 24-hour formats.
  • Alarms: Supports an hourly time signal and up to three independent daily alarms.
  • Dual Time: Allows you to keep track of a second time zone.
  • Stopwatch & Timer: Features both a standard digital chronograph and a countdown timer.
