The Casio CGW-50 "Cosmo Phase" is an ultra-rare, vintage digital watch released by Casio in the late 1980s (around 1989).
It belongs to a golden era of Casio experimentation where they packed highly specific, creative functionality into digital timepieces.
Instead of traditional watch metrics, the CGW-50 features a unique graphical solar system simulation on its display.
Core Astronomical Features

  • Planetary Tracking: The LCD graphics can map and display the precise orbital positions of all nine planets around the Sun.
  • 300-Year Calendar: Its internal astronomical calendar allows you to view celestial alignments for any specific day spanning across 299 years, from 1901 to 2200.
  • Halley's Comet & Eclipses: The watch features a dedicated secondary mode to calculate and track the trajectory of Halley's Comet as well as solar eclipses.
  • Dynamic Animations: In alarm mode, Halley's Comet streams across the screen. In countdown timer mode, the planets shoot outwards from the centre Sun once the clock hits zero.
Standard Watch Specifications

Alongside its complex space tracking, it serves as a highly functional daily digital watch:
  • Timekeeping: Simultaneously readouts the time, year, date, and day of the week.
  • Classic Modules: Equipped with a 24-hour stopwatch (1/100 sec), countdown timer with auto-repeat, and 5 daily alarms with an hourly chime.
  • Durability: Built with a resin or stainless steel case structure, acrylic crystal, and water resistance up to 50m–100m depending on the exact casing variant.
Collector Value & Availability
Because it had a limited production run and niche appeal during its release, it has become a highly sought-after piece of digital history.
