This Casio is incredibly rare, highly collectible piece of digital timekeeping history: a 1981 Casio FB-50 "Batteryless" Solar digital watch featuring the legendary Module 520.
Produced during the peak of Casio's early design experimentation, this model is a holy grail for vintage digital watch enthusiasts.
Unlike most units found today that suffer from dead, unserviceable storage cells, this watch has been professionally fitted with a brand-new, fresh storage capacitor.
It charges efficiently under light and holds a strong power reserve exactly as intended.
Condition Details:
- Mechanical: 100% fully functional. The new capacitor means the watch runs perfectly. Buttons are responsive, and the time/date adjustment settings operate smoothly.
- LCD Screen: In remarkable condition. The digits are incredibly crisp, dark, and clear with no bleeding, fade, or missing segments.
- Cosmetic: The resin case is in great aesthetic condition for its age. The distinct blue and black solar cell text ring has beautifully preserved, sharp printing. The stainless steel case back features clean, unblemished factory "CASIO 520 FB-50 STAINLESS STEEL BACK JAPAN M" engravings.
- Strap: Fitted on a comfortable, clean black resin strap that complements the vintage aesthetic perfectly.
Why this piece is special:
The FB-50 was one of Casio's earliest ventures into sustainable, solar-powered wristwear. Because these models are notorious for original capacitor failure, finding a pristine, running example with a newly serviced power cell is exceptionally rare. This watch is completely ready to be worn daily or placed directly into a high-end vintage collection.
Collectability
Because it was a pioneering piece in Casio's early solar-powered timeline, it is highly sought after and rarely appears on the market.
Working units with healthy capacitors are exceptionally difficult to track down.
