The Casio SDB-300W is a highly collectible vintage digital sports watch introduced by Casio in 1986.
It holds a pioneering legacy as the very first model in Casio’s iconic Sports Data Bank series, engineered to cater to the global running and marathon boom of the 1980s.
Core Specifications & Design
- Module: Driven by Casio's internal Module 503.
- Aesthetics: It features a distinctively sporty, retro layout highlighted by a bold red START/STOP button and a bright yellow LAP/SPLIT button situated on the front face for easy athlete access.
- Key Functions: Includes a 1/100-second stopwatch with a 30-lap memory capacity (storing split times and dates), a daily alarm, an hourly time chime, and a micro-backlight.
- Build: Formed with a lightweight resin case, acrylic crystal, and 50 metres (5 ATM) of water resistance. It runs on a long-lasting CR2016 3V coin battery, which helps prevent internal acid leaks common in other vintage modules.
- Pop Culture Note: This particular model line famously achieved Olympic-level status when worn by legendary American sprinter Florence Griffith Joyner (Flo-Jo).
Collector's Market & Value
Because original 1980s resin straps and bezels dry-rot over time, finding a Casio SDB-300W in "New Old Stock" (NOS) condition or with intact components is highly rare. Today, it commands premium prices among watch enthusiasts.
